Playgroup Actvity: My First Mini Hajj

Alhamdulillah by the mercy of Allah, after a one-year hiatus, we were able to restart our Muslim Munchkins Playgroup again, a playgroup that myself and mummy friend, Grace (aka my partner-in-crime homeschooler), first set up two years ago. It is a playgroup in which we organise activities for children ages 2-6 for the purpose of learning Islam and other subjects in an Islamic social environment for our little ones and us SAHMs (who also need to socialise hehe).

In the days leading up to this, I have been teaching Khadeejah all about the story of the Prophet Ibrahim AS, we made a Hajj diorama, and learnt the names of the rites and terms through rhymes and flash cards, and also practiced the Talbiyyah. So now for the practical feel!

Let me take you on a tour of our little "Makkah" set up!

First up, our welcome sign and some Hajj Glossary terms with brief descriptions for the mamas to teach their little ones. I also incorporated the 'ABC's of Hajj' here and the other stations related to the card (i.e. Black stone was placed near the Kaabah). There is also an example of the Ihram garments and the Talbiyyah. I even brought the diorama we made for the little ones to play with! It served as a good briefing diagram to show them what they are about to do and we sang the rhymes to it as well, which they really enjoyed!

Next up, the Kaabah! Here I included the B is for Black stone, T for Tawaaf and M for Masjidil Haram. They did the tawaaf while we chanting the Talbiyyah!

After the tawaaf, they performed the Sa'ee then onto Mina where I put up a tent for them to "sleep" in (they just loved going inside and out really) and some went to the pretend "Zam Zam" dispenser to "cool off".

After that, we head to the Mt Arafah to make du'aa, Muzdalifah to pick up pebbles and threw them at the Jamaraat for the Ramy.

Last but not least, the Halq (shaving of the head) and making a Qurbani with our poor little lamb who had to be sacrificed many times 😂.

So there you have it, our mini Hajj trip was a success and now we have many mini "hujjaj"! Hajj Mabrur! 😁It was worth all the effort in making this happen and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to host this. Jazakumullahu khayran to all the mums and munchkins who participated. May our children be inspired and take home a longing for this fifth pillar of Islam; the call to pilgrimage and a once-in-a-lifetime event every muslim look forward to. May Allah grant all of us the opportunity to reach the House of Allah and the sacred lands. AAMEEN.

For those who are in Makkah right now, may Allah accept it and grant all of you Hajj Mabrur and please make du'aa for us too! 💖🕋

  1. Another important factor to consider is the pronunciation of the name. You want to choose a name that is easy to pronounce and spell, muslim baby names with meanings both for your child and for others. It's also a good idea to think about how the name will sound with your last name, as some combinations may not flow as well as others.
